About a half-hour from Mason, southeast on Interstate 75 and right across the Ohio-Kentucky border, is Newport, Kentucky, where you can find the Ohio River overlooking Cincinnati’s skyline, BB Riverboats, and Newport Aquarium. If you are a shark lover, Newport Aquarium is a must-see for you. “Surrounded By Sharks” is the aquarium’s seamless acrylic tunnel experience that allows you to experience marine life around you and observe sharks, rays, and more than 300 fish. Want a top-down view as well? Cross over the world’s first shark bridge! Newport Aquarium is sure to please both the little ones and the adults.

Make Sure To Plan Ahead for Newport Aquarium

You’ll need to plan your trip to Newport Aquarium ahead of time because the facilities are still operating under an advance ticketing protocol to keep all patrons safe. However, keep reading! You won’t be sorry you spent the extra time planning your day trip to Newport.

“Sea, Touch, and Explore” is the aquarium’s philosophy when it comes to providing an exceptional learning experience for kids and adults alike throughout the million-gallon facility. This means there are plenty of hands-on experiences available, like touching a shark or finding out the difference between a cold climate penguin and a warm climate penguin by visiting separate exhibits.

Before you leave Newport, cruise down the Ohio River on a vintage riverboat. Locals and visitors alike rave about the fantastic BB Riverboats experience. Choose among a variety of dining and sightseeing cruises; dress to your comfort and according to the occasion you’re celebrating.

They even have cruises made especially for kids! The Ice Cream Social Cruise, for example, is available on Sundays during the summer season. Adults pay $28 and kids ages 4 through 12 pay $23 for an hour and a half afternoon sightseeing tour where all passengers can enjoy a complimentary scoop of ice cream with assorted toppings. Another popular one with the kids is the Pirates of The Ohio Cruise, where children get a free pirate hat and eye patch before they board and can use a treasure map to find their bounty before the ship docks. The Swashbuckler’s Ball is the late-night adult version of the cruise with live music and games.

Find BB Riverboats at 101 Riverboat Row in Newport, Kentucky, though we recommend calling in your reservation (800-261-8586) to ensure you can book without issue.
