Now that we’ve covered exactly what the Messages, Main Items, and Sub Items mean — here’s an example of how to decode the entire system message.
For example, your Honda Maintenance Minder Message displays an illuminated orange wrench followed by the code “A3”. “A” is a Main Item which would indicate that your engine oil should be replaced. “3” is a Sub Item which suggests that it’s time to replace your vehicle’s transmission fluid and transfer fluid (if equipped).
It’s also important to note that while there will always be a Main Item displayed in the message, Sub Items are only periodically displayed since they are based on a time and mileage schedule. There is also a possibility for the message to display multiple Sub Items (example – A129). Each additional Sub Item simply represents another indicated service. In this example, you would need Sub Items 1, 2, and 9.

Since the Maintenance Minder is far from just an oil change indicator, following the suggested services provides numerous benefits which both you and your vehicle will appreciate.
Using the Maintenance Minder for completing oil changes ensures that your engine continues to provide the performance you’ve come to expect. Taking the guesswork out of oil change intervals, the system also eliminates unnecessary waste from changing your oil too frequently. As a bonus, you’ll drive with peace of mind from knowing you’re also helping our environment.
