Just across the river in Covington, Kentucky, Coppin’s Restaurant & Bar in the Covington Hotel serves Christmas dinner for its guests and locals looking for a lovely holiday dining experience. Its mission is to partner with local food sources for a regional and surprising menu. There are small tables for an intimate meal and larger spaces for a family get-together.

Holiday menus in the past have featured the regular menu with items like cauliflower bisque, corn fritters, and lamb ragu, along with a prix fixe menu for Christmas dinner with the chef’s specialties such as prime ribs, risottos, and decadent desserts. Of course, the bar is always open for classic and innovative drinks and cocktails.

Red Roost Tavern

Red Roost Tavern is a farm-to-table restaurant that serves bar favorites like jalapeño and corn fundido, soft pretzels with beer cheese, and a variety of sandwiches and salads. Past Christmas menus have included delicacies like shrimp cocktail, crab claws, lemon bulgur and lentil salad, and classics like turkey, cornbread stuffing, and glazed ham. Mitchell’s Fish Market

Mitchell’s Fish Market, in nearby Woodmere, offers a menu of the freshest seafood prepared to your preferences. The catch of the day may be halibut, scallops, ruby trout, or walleye. Light and flavorful options such as cedar-planked salmon and lobster tails go with classics like fish and chips. In the past, Mitchell’s hosted diners for lunch and dinner on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with special menus to celebrate. So expect to be treated to the same come December 24 and 25 this year.

DeSha’s American Tavern

For 30 years, DeSha’s American Tavern has been a proud part of the Cincinnati community and known for its daily prime rib dinner served with mashed potatoes and mushrooms au jus. The menu also features tavern favorites like burgers, fish ‘n chips, sandwiches, and salads and pays homage to our neighbor across the river with Kentucky hot brown and Maker’s Mark pulled pork. For its takeaway Christmas menu, the restaurant offers its prime rib and fixings, a variety of dessert options, and a Bourbon glazed ham with mac and cheese and vegetables.

Chloe’s Eatery

Chloe’s Eatery is supervised by a classically trained Alaskan chef, Curtis Chase, and features a casual menu with special touches. House-made honey garlic chips are served alongside sandwiches like a Cuban, fried chicken sandwich, smoked chicken salad, or a Waygu burger. For a little spice, enjoy some Aleppo-pepper chicken tacos or carnitas. The past Christmas takeout menu included a charcuterie board featuring products from Ohio and a herb and black pepper-crusted Waygu beef roast, along with vegetables and seasonal, hearty desserts.

S. W. Clyborne Co. Provision & Spirits

The menu at S. W. Clyborne Co. Provision & Spirits is seasonal, chef-driven, and made from scratch. Starters include house-made pimiento cheese, goat cheese ravioli, and cheddar scallion biscuits with honey butter. Fresh greens or beets and burrata salads lead the way to pan-seared salmon, crab-crusted Lake Erie walleye, or shrimp and grits. And fresh vegetable sides and tempting desserts round out the menu.

Their special Christmas meal kit menu in the past featured a brown sugar and pineapple glazed ham with fully cooked side items. There was even an oven-ready breakfast casserole to take all the Christmas Day cooking off diners’ hands.

Cozy’s Cafe & Pub

At Cozy’s Cafe & Pub in Liberty Township, you can enjoy a gourmet meal in a farmhouse-style dining room. You’ll also be treated to a drink at the industrial-style pub or a starter out by the fire pit while listening to live entertainment. Cozy’s brunch has favorites like eggs benedict and biscuits and gravy, along with something special like the gooey apple bacon cinnamon roll. Lunch and dinner menus are filled with locally sourced ingredients (such as filet or ribeye), the freshest salad ingredients, and house-made crab cakes.

A take-and-bake Christmas menu included prime rib or glazed ham dinner for six, with scalloped potatoes, honey ginger roasted carrots, rolls, and Cozy’s carrot cake.

Empanadas Aqui

Venezuelan street food is on the menu at Emapanas AquiEmpanadas come in vegetarian or succulent meat varieties, arepa varieties featuring homemade Guyanese (a Venezuelan mozzarella-type cheese), and traditional meats, vegetables, and sauces. For something a little different for Christmas dinner, they have served the Plato Navideño, comprised of roasted meats, a Venezuelan tamal called a Hallaca, and desserts.
