The newly redesigned 2024 Honda Accord is bigger, better, and sportier than before. Although it has influences from the Honda Civic, it still offers a unique look that makes it decidedly different. The new Accord is slightly longer than the previous models. It boasts a distinctive black mesh grille with LED headlamps on both sides, a curvy bumper for wide air intake, and a larger bonnet than before. It also features larger glass panels for enhanced visibility, slim LED lights extending toward the center of the rear, and an integrated lip spoiler.
The new SONATA boasts a fresh, sleek, and stylish look for the 2024 model year. Its sporty front and rear design gives it an aggressive look that stands out on the road. Features such as Hyundai’s horizon lamp at the front create a seamless and futuristic effect. Lower-positioned headlights and a full-width daylight bar complement the SONATA’s edgy appearance.
Accord Hybrid vs. SONATA Hybrid
The 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid also matches the 2023 powertrain for the new model year. Its 2.0-liter inline-four engine and two electric motors produce 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. The drivetrain uses a lockup clutch automatic transmission on front-wheel drive only. To give you an idea of its performance, the 2024 SONATA can go from zero to 60 mph in 8 seconds, while the Accord can achieve this in just 6.5 seconds.
The 2024 SONATA Hybrid uses the same powertrain as the 2023 model year, including a 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline engine that pairs with a 51 kW electric motor on a front-wheel-drive system. The powertrain delivers a combined 192 horsepower through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Interior and Technology
The Accord and the SONATA have both had meaningful cabin transformations. They offer a range of intuitive technology features to suit a diverse range of driver needs. When it comes to interior space, the Honda Accord offers a little extra with a larger cabin. A generous rear seat provides more legroom than the SONATA, which is especially noticeable for longer-legged passengers. It also offers slightly more cargo space than the SONATA. If passenger and cargo space are your priority, the Honda Accord is the way to go.
You can expect a premium honeycomb theme and soft-touch materials in the Accord. It also boasts the largest touch-screen display yet at 12.3 inches and a 10.3-inch digital cluster. It has a moonroof, wireless charging, and a head-up display. Integrated Google apps and an optional 12-speaker Bose audio system add a touch of luxury. The SONATA features two 12.3-inch displays for a modern and simple layout, one for the driver and another for infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It also features wireless smartphone charging and the same optional 12-speaker Bose stereo system.
Safety Ratings and Features
The Accord comes with Honda Sensing standard across all trims, which includes a collision mitigation braking system and a road departure mitigation system. A multi-angle rearview camera and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow are offered even at the base level. Choose higher trims to unlock a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic monitoring and parking sensors. Hyundai’s SmartSense offers standard forward collision warning and automated emergency braking. It also has lane departure warning and lane-keep assist. Blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert are available, but you must pay for them.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) haven’t yet rated the 2024 Honda Accord or Hyundai SONATA. The IIHS rated the 2023 Honda Accord and Hyundai SONATA a Top Safety Pick. As both models offer many of the same features (with some enhancements), we expect the 2024 models to receive the same ratings.
Miles Per Gallon
The EPA-estimated fuel economy for both vehicles is similar when comparing gasoline engines. The Accord delivers 29 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway, whereas the SONATA gets 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.
Choose the Accord Hybrid model, and the efficiency rating races up to 51 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway. The SONATA’s Blue hybrid takes this a step further. It achieves 50 mpg in the city and 54 on the highway. The other SONATA hybrid models achieve 45 mpg in the city and 51 mpg on the highway. You’ll need to opt for the 16-inch wheels on the SONATA or the 17-inch wheels on the Accord to achieve these fuel efficiency ratings.
Which Is Best?
