December 2nd, 2021 by

Honda’s 2022 edition of the popular HR-V is a great SUV for anyone who wants the practicality of a spacious cabin and the convenience of a compact vehicle. The HR-V’s efficient power train, extensive tech options, and comfortable passenger seating make it ideal for city driving and highway trips. Honda made no major changes for the 2022 model year. Industry watchers expect a complete redesign may be coming for 2023. Our team here at Performance Honda near Cincinnati has put together some of the 2022 HR-V’s highlights for you to explore.

Engine and Performance

The 2022 HR-V offers the same power train throughout its lineup with a 1.8-liter V-4 engine that can put out 141 horsepower. It’s paired to a continuously variable transmission to ensure smooth acceleration.

This power train will get the job done for your day-to-day driving needs. Where it stands out is fuel economy. The HR-V manages 28 mpg on city roads and 34 mpg on the highway. If you add the optional all-wheel drive, those figures drop to 27 mpg and 31 mpg, respectively. Even these lower numbers are strong for the subcompact SUV class.

Seating and Cargo

Step inside the cabin of this compact SUV, and you’ll find upscale materials and plenty of cargo-carrying space. The HR-V has ample legroom and headroom in both rows to accommodate adult passengers. For kids, you’ll find two sets of LATCH connectors for the outermost seats in the rear row and a tether anchor in the middle seat. The rear row folds down to create more space for cargo.

With a full contingent of passengers, you’ll have about 24 cubic feet of storage space behind the rear row. Fold down the rear row of Honda’s smallest SUV, and you’ll open up approximately 58 cubic feet of cargo capacity. According to Car and Driver, the HR-V’s cargo-carrying capacity is better than some larger SUVs.

If the HR-V doesn’t have enough space for you, you may want to check out the Honda CR-V, a slightly larger compact SUV.

Infotainment and Driver Assistance Technology

The 2022 Honda HR-V’s base infotainment system features a 5-inch display and four-speaker stereo. Other features in the base setup include BlueTooth connectivity and a USB port.

If you want to take advantage of smartphone compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you’ll need to step up a trim. The HR-V’s upgraded tech features include a 7-inch touch screen, an extra USB port, and a satellite radio. You also get an improved stereo with six speakers. The Honda Link system, which allows you to control various features in your HR-V from your smartphone, is another bonus that comes with the upgrade.

Honda is renowned for providing drivers with a range of tech features to make their job easier. Push-button start and proximity keyless entry are two examples that fall into this category.

On top of that, the Honda HR-V boasts a long list of driver assistance technology. The standard setup is equipped with a rearview camera. You can opt for several features designed to help you stay safe on the highway, including adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning. Adaptive cruise control will adjust your speed to ensure that you retain a safe distance from drivers up ahead.

The HR-V also offers safety features to help you avoid accidents. Forward collision warning alerts you if a vehicle or other object up ahead threatens to cause a collision. If you fail to react to the warning quickly enough, the automatic emergency braking system can kick in to bring your HR-V to a stop.

Honda also includes features for safer parking. The available rear and front parking sensors will assist you to maneuver in and out of even the tightest parking spots with confidence.

Trims

If you’ve decided the HR-V is the right SUV for you, you can choose from four trims in the 2022 model: LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L. The base trim has a starting retail price of $21,420.

In the base trim, the cabin is fitted with cloth upholstery and the standard infotainment system. There are physical nobs to adjust the climate control and stereo volume. The rear seat is split 60-40 for folding flat. For some exterior flair, the LX rides on alloy wheels.

Step up to the Sport trim to gain access to a touchscreen, sports pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and paddle shifters for the driver. Outside, the HR-V gets gloss black mirrors and fog lights. Passengers in the cabin can enjoy an even more relaxed ride thanks to the HR-V Sport’s active noise cancellation.

The EX trim adds most of the driver safety features we described earlier. It also comes with an improved six-speaker stereo and automatic climate control. Front-seat passengers benefit from heated seats, while the cabin gets a moonroof. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is dropped for this trim.

The range-topping EX-L trim is the one to go for if you’d like a more luxurious feel to your cabin. It comes with leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. You’ll also benefit from an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
