Meet the all-new, redesigned 2016 Honda Pilot

685 × 347
Since its debut in 2002, the Honda Pilot has been a favorite for many Cincinnatians. Honda’s largest SUV was fully redesigned for 2016, and you may not even recognize it. Honda designers ditched the boxy frame in favor of a smoother, more curved façade.

The basics

The 2016 Pilot has a 3.5-liter V6 engine, putting out 280 horsepower and it’s available in 2WD or AWD. Most models run on a 6-speed automatic transmission, but high-trim models have 9-speed automatics.

Lighter, but longer

The 2016 redesign adds 3.5 inches of length to the Pilot, but Honda managed to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle by 300 pounds. Those extra inches give you considerable cargo space: 16.5 cubic feet with the third row of seats up and 46.8 cubic feet with the third row folded down.

Great for kids

Honda clearly designed the Pilot with kids in mind. The Pilot comes in various trims and options, so you can choose to get a 7-seater with “captain” seats in the second row or be able to fit 8 people comfortably if you select a standard second row.

The Pilot offers a button that easily folds down the second row, so getting to the third row is a breeze. No more climbing over siblings or pushing seats up and down!

The Pilot gives you a bunch of perks for traveling with kids, as well: 5 USB charging ports (iPads, iPhones… your kids will thank you!), an HDMI port for a gaming console, and of course the traditional drop down entertainment console.

Premium Interior

Most of the reviews of the 2016 Pilot are all most impressed by the interior of the Pilot. The 2016 redesign offers high-quality, soft-touch materials throughout the entire cabin. The cockpit is sleek; so sleek it reminded many reviewers of Acura interiors.

Safety

Backup cameras are now standard on the Pilot, blind spot indicators and LaneWatch technology. Honda also offers a lengthy list of optional safety equipment, including lane departure warnings, forward collision warnings, and automatic cruise controls. According to Honda, the Pilot is also expected to earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick ranking, along with a 5-star NHTSA Overall Vehicle Score.
